Overview

FYI: There are no restrictions whatever on obtaining information on a business.  Only individuals are protected (by the Fair Credit Reporting Act).  Businesses are not protected at this time; and it is not likely they ever will be. They are subject to investigation. Public companies (those that issue and sell stock to the public through one of the stock exchanges) must, by law, disclose and make available to the public everything to do with their firm - from capitalization to officer's salaries to ownership.

Getting information on privately held companies, trusts and partnerships can be, on the other hand, difficult.   Businesses that are not publicly held are not required to divulge information to anybody but those who have a lawful claim to it; usually by order of a court of law.  So, unless ordered by a court to reveal certain, specific information, a business can tell you whatever they want you to believe.

Therefore, if you are dealing with a non-public, closely held, company, you would be well advised to order the appropriate business searches. You might not get all of the information you want on the business; but you will get some very useful information, such as approximate sales, high credit, date of incorporation, principals, etc.

Business reports take longer to get than consumer reports. Generally, allow 1 to 4 business days.  As a rule, the smaller the firm, the longer the information takes to obtain.

Information Required and/or Helpful

The more information you have on a business, the better it is for us, and typically less expensive for you. Try to give us the full name of the business, address, telephone number, Federal Tax ID or Federal EIN.  SSN or SIN on an individual.
